Jogger Attacked by Wolves in French Safari Park
A 36-year-old woman is in intensive care after a wolf attack while she was jogging in an animal park near Paris, according to French media.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred early Sunday morning when the victim, who was staying at a lodge within Thoiry park, mistakenly wandered into the main safari area, designated only for vehicles. She was attacked by three arctic wolves, suffering severe bites to her neck, back, and leg.
Located approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of Paris, Thoiry is one of France’s most visited wildlife parks. It houses around 800 free-roaming animals, observed by visitors from the safety of their cars. The park provides lodging close to the wolf and bear enclosures, with these areas secured by electric fences and ditches, as reported by France Info.
The reason why the woman entered the car-only safari zone remains unclear. Park officials have yet to comment on the incident.
An unnamed police source told Le Parisien newspaper, “We do not know at this stage whether the guest made a mistake or whether there was a problem with the signposts.”
The woman’s cries for help were heard by park staff, who promptly rescued her and transported her to a nearby hospital. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
