FBI: Iran Sent Trump Campaign Hack Info to Biden Associates, No Replies Found
Iranian hackers have reportedly distributed sensitive information, stolen from Donald Trump’s 2020 electoral campaign, to individuals connected with Joe Biden’s team, according to the FBI and U.S. intelligence officials.
The data breach, which occurred in late June and early July, targeted individuals tied to the Biden campaign, although Joe Biden had already suspended his presidential run by that time. Investigators found no evidence that anyone from Biden’s team responded to the unsolicited emails.
In August, U.S. officials warned that Iran aimed to “fuel discord” and weaken confidence in American institutions ahead of the November election.
Officials from the U.S. government suggested that Iran had used techniques such as social engineering to attempt gaining access to both Republican and Democratic campaigns, similar to methods seen in other global operations conducted by both Iranian and Russian hackers.
Election Polls: Harris vs. Trump?
A statement from the FBI on Wednesday confirmed that Iranian cyber actors had continued to disseminate non-public materials related to Trump’s campaign to various U.S. media outlets since June.
Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for Trump’s campaign, said the hack was clear evidence of Iran’s interference to support Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. Leavitt accused Biden and Harris of benefiting from the breach and demanded transparency, asking, “What did they know, and when did they know it?”
Former President Trump also addressed the hack at a rally, claiming that Iran provided the material to Biden because “Biden is working with Iran.”
Morgan Finkelstein, spokesperson for the Harris-Walz campaign, asserted that the team has cooperated with authorities since the hacks were uncovered. “We haven’t seen any material sent directly to our campaign,” Finkelstein said, adding that only a few individuals had received what appeared to be phishing attempts via their personal emails.
Finkelstein emphasized the campaign’s strong stance against foreign election interference, while the White House remains silent on the issue.
Iranian Denial and FBI’s Ongoing Investigation
Iran has flatly denied the accusations, with a spokesperson for Iran’s UN mission stating that the country has no reason or intent to interfere in the U.S. election.
Meanwhile, the FBI continues to investigate the breach, keeping in close contact with the victims and working to disrupt any further hacking efforts.
Assassination Attempts and Trump’s Security Concerns
This news comes as Trump’s personal security is under renewed scrutiny. Just days ago, authorities thwarted a second apparent assassination attempt on Trump at his Mar-a-Lago golf course in Florida.
Addressing the situation, Trump remarked, “You don’t want to ever be curtailed by the crazy people out there,” after surviving two attempts on his life — one in July, during a rally in Pennsylvania, and the other at his Florida residence.
At a rally in Long Island, New York, Trump credited divine intervention for his survival. “God spared my life,” he told supporters to cheers. “Not once, but twice.”
Supporters at the rally expressed growing concern for Trump’s safety. Dina Glazer, one attendee, blamed the Democrats for creating a dangerous atmosphere with their rhetoric, while another, Michelle Christ, worried about the ongoing threat Trump faces.
The crowd’s mood soured when Trump mentioned Springfield, Ohio, a town roiled by rumors involving its Haitian immigrant community. Trump faced criticism for amplifying these false claims during debates, drawing boos from the audience when the topic arose.
