US Rapper Fatman Scoop Passes Away After On-Stage Collapse
American rapper Fatman Scoop has passed away at the age of 53 after collapsing during a performance in Connecticut. The tragic incident occurred midway through his set at Town Center Park in Hamden on Friday, according to his representative, who confirmed the news to the BBC.
Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett shared on Facebook that Fatman Scoop, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, his booking agency, MN2S, later confirmed his death, stating, “His legacy will live on through his timeless music.”
The music world is mourning the loss of a beloved figure known for his booming voice and energetic performances. A spokesperson from MN2S remarked, “Scoop was a cherished icon in the music industry, and his work was adored by fans worldwide. His unique voice, contagious energy, and vibrant personality left an unforgettable impact.”
In a heartfelt tribute on social media, Fatman Scoop’s family described him as “a radiant soul, a beacon of light both on stage and in life.” They added, “He was not only a world-class performer but also a father, brother, uncle, and friend. He brought laughter into our lives and was a pillar of support and strength.”
Isaac Freeman III was a significant influence in New York City’s hip-hop scene during the 1990s. He gained widespread recognition for his contributions to hit tracks such as Missy Elliott’s Grammy-winning “Lose Control” and Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That.” His track “Be Faithful,” released in 1999, became a sleeper hit, achieving global success in 2003 by topping the charts in the UK and Ireland.
In addition to his musical achievements, Fatman Scoop appeared in the UK TV series “Chancers” in 2004, where he mentored aspiring artists, and was a contestant on “Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs USA” in 2015.
His tour manager, DJ Pure Cold, expressed his deep sorrow on Instagram, writing, “I am lost for words. You took me around the world and taught me so much. Your lessons have shaped who I am today.”
Fatman Scoop was scheduled to perform at the UK’s Reminisce Festival on September 7th. The festival organizers expressed their devastation on Instagram, calling him “not just one of our most popular performers, but a cherished member of the Reminisce family.” They continued, “His energy, talent, and infectious spirit will be missed more than words can express.”
