Former One Direction Star Liam Payne Dies After Tragic Fall from Balcony in Argentina
Liam Payne, renowned for his role in the global sensation One Direction, has tragically passed away at the age of 31 following a fall from a third-floor balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The incident occurred in the upscale Palermo district, and local police confirmed that they discovered his body after receiving a 911 call.
The police report stated that emergency services responded to a call involving a “disruptive individual” who was allegedly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Shortly after arriving at the hotel, officers were alerted to a loud noise coming from an inner courtyard. It was there that they found Payne’s body. A full investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the fall.
Alberto Crescenti, director of Buenos Aires’ emergency medical services, told local outlets that Payne sustained severe injuries, and an autopsy is planned to provide further details. However, Crescenti refrained from commenting on the exact circumstances of Payne’s tragic fall.
A spokesperson from the UK Foreign Office acknowledged that they are working closely with Argentine authorities but have not provided further updates at this time.
Just hours before the fall, Payne shared a lighthearted message on Snapchat, mentioning that it was a “lovely day” in Argentina, making the news of his sudden death all the more shocking.
Fans, shocked and devastated, gathered at the hotel to pay their respects, leading police to block access to the building. “I was at home when my sister told me what happened,” said Violeta Antier, a fan who came to the hotel upon hearing the news. “We couldn’t believe it. We had to come and see if it was true.”
Payne had recently been spotted attending a concert in Argentina performed by former bandmate Niall Horan just two weeks before his passing. His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes on social media from fans and celebrities alike.
